Wife kills her husband, shooting him from point blank range, stuff his dead body in a suitcase and put it in the boot of the car to dispose it…

This is no thriller movie scene, but a gruesome reality of a murder in Mohali.

A 40-year-old man, Ekam Singh Dhillion, a property dealer, was found murdered in Phase 3B1 by the police with his body stuffed in large suitcase in BMW parked outside his house.

The Shocking Story Behind:

March 19, 2017; 9pm: According to family members, Ekam had come to meet his father around 9 pm on Sunday and was very tense. “As he was under some pressure, his father, Jaspal Singh Dhillon, asked him to have dinner. When his father went to receive a phone call, Ekam left,” they added.

March 19, 2017; 9.45 pm: He reached his house on the first floor. Till midnight, both husband and wife (Sirat Kaur) waited for their two children to go to sleep. The two then started arguing.

March 19, 2017; 12.30 am: One of the children heard a loud noise from one of the rooms. A little while later, an unidentified person approached the kids and asked them to sleep while shutting the door of their room.

They desided to dispose off the dead body in the morning. They bundled his dead body in a suitcase. Sirat with another woman struggled to keep the bag in the boot of the car as 6 foot 3 inches tall Ekam weighed over 100 kg. They  asked a passing auto-rickshaw driver for help and he kept suspicious seeing the blood oozing out of the suitcase. He called the police from near the gurdwara of Phase 3B1 and Sirat fled the scene fearing police arrival any minute.

Police Investigation:

Later, Sirat herself surrendered before the police and confessed her crime. DSL Alam Vijay said, “Sirat has admitted to killing her husband, but she was helped by someone else.”The police have also booked Sirat’s mother Jaswinder Kaur and brother Vinay Partap Singh under sections 34, 201, and 302 of the IPC. Sirat allegedly fired from a point blank range at Ekam, with the bullet coming out from the left temple, police said. The police has recovered the murder weapon too.

The motive of the murder, however, is still not clear.

The victim and the alleged murderer:

Mohali based property dealer Ekam Singh Dhillon was the only son of human rights activist Jaspal Singh Dhillon.

His wife, alleged murderer, Sirat Kaur is the niece of former Congress MLA from Sardulgarh Ajit Inder Singh Mofer, who was defeated in the Vidhan Sabha elections. He lost to SAD candidate during the recently-concluded assembly elections in Punjab.
