Celebrate the Spirit of City Beautiful with Chandigarh Urban Festival ‘20

Chandigarh is a pride of not just every person living here in the city, but also every modernist across the globe who keeps a perfect balance of cultural values and modern ideas as he progress towards achieving higher goals. Chandigarh, as was designed like a living organism, is a personification of elegance and vivacious spirit. Chandigarhians keep celebrating the city whenever they find an occasion to do so, however, there’s one grand festival that goes 365 days celebrating the Chandigarh – the landscape, the architecture, the art, the culture, the people – that’s Chandigarh Urban Festival!

What’s Chandigarh Urban Festival (CUF)?

Chandigarh Urban Festival is all about celebrating Chandigarhians’ belongingness and togetherness. It is an amazing platform that boils down the differences between citizens, bring them together to share their happiness and problems, think over them and together come up with solutions for the higher authorities to ponder upon – that’s celebrating people’s power! Additionally, think-tanks deliberate on city’s issues and draw a road-map for the administration. This all is done through intricately designed plethora of annual activities like- City Celebration, Neighborhood Initiative, Ideas Competition & Exhibition and Intellectual Discourses.

Third Edition of Chandigarh Urban Festival- CUF’20

ACT! Chandigarh- a society, in partnership with the UT Chandigarh Administration, that organizes an annual outdoor celebration of public spaces is returning to the streets of The City Beautiful with its third edition of Chandigarh Urban Festival. Rooted around re-discovering the city through art and urban design interventions, CUF’20 is scheduled from February 9-16, 2020. The majestic Jan Marg or People’s Avenue is the venue for this outdoor celebration. It begins from Sector 17, the heart of the city, and culminates at the Capitol Complex, Sector 1, the head of Chandigarh.

Across the past two years, the CUF has organized art displays and cultural performances in Jan Marg, creating this as an iconic landmark within the city. During CUF-18 and CUF-19, the final highlight was the Open Hand Carnival that moved from the Matka Chowk to the Capitol Complex. The event concluded with the city coming together at the World Heritage site, People’s Plaza to release sky lanterns.

The motive behind choosing these areas is to connect to our shared history, as envisioned by Le Corbusier, and explore how integral these spaces have been to the cultural history and development of the city.

Get ready to know the lesser known (if not unknown) stories and vistas of your beloved Chandigarh!
