COVID-19 positive cases in Chandigarh have touched 420 today with 92 active cases. The recent surge in cases is mainly due to contacts of visitors from outside tricity especially from the hotspots. Keeping in view, the Chandigarh administration ordered 14 days self-home quarantine mandatory for visitors coming from outside tricity staying in Chandigarh for more than 72 hours. In the War Room meeting today, following points were deliberated upon & UT Administrator gave following directions:
• In case of a drastic rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Chandigarh or if the city residents continue to violate social distancing norms, Chandigarh administration could opt for weekend closure of markets or curfew on weekends, as has been done in Punjab and other states.
• UT Administrator has directed the DC to ensure that all visitors from outside tri-city, who are staying in different localities are monitored for detection of symptoms. They should not be allowed to violate the quarantine stipulations.
• All pregnant women admitted in the hospitals must be mandatorily tested for COVID-19.
• DGP Chandigarh has been directed to ensure that vehicles carrying registration numbers from outstation & bringing visitors from outside are checked at the borders & their details obtained for subsequent monitoring.
