At last, Pinjore-Baddi bypass construction, which was on hold for the last seven months, will begin from the next month, January, 2018.
The 7.7km stretch of road will be a direct link to Baddi from Zirakpur-Kalka highway. This road comes will aid Solan, Shimla, Baddi commuters and reduce the time of transportation.
Why the clearance had been on hold?
The work was stopped when it was discovered that the road stretch fell in the premises of the eco-sensitive Sukhna catchment area. The Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change has given clearance to part of the project that falls in Sukhna catchment area.
Although these issues should have been cleared beforehand, but now, the issue has been sorted out, as stated by Kalka MLA Latika Sharma.
The industrialists from Baddi and Nalagarh too approached the Kalka MLA seeking intervention on the issue. This road is critical to industrialists in Baddi’s Industrial Area and it will make the transportation easy for thousands of trucks providing logistic support.
Presently trucks get stuck up in Pinjore due to absence of a proper route. It creates inconvenience to transporters, commuters and residents as well due to persistent traffic jams.
The Construction of the Bypass Will Decongest NH-22 As Well
This 7.7 km bypass has a lot of advantages –
- A direct road link from NH-22 through will be formed by the bypass that will start near the HMT factory that is situated on the highway.
- More than 4,000 trucks and hundreds of commuters travel to Baddi on a daily basis. In the absence of a direct link road from Zirakpur-Kalka highway (NH-22) to reach Baddi, the traffic is routed from Pinjore. There is traffic heading towards Shimla from this route. This proposed Bypass will de-congest the highway.
- Time of travel will be reduced.
For regulating traffic, entry of trucks are prohibited in Pinjore between 7am and 9am, 1pm and 3pm, and 5pm and 8pm. But owing to the heavy rush, these timings are not implemented properly.
