When you think of Indian Postal department, what comes to your mind?
Khaki wearing postman on bicycle with a bag full of letters, a specky old man thumping stamps on letters…
Guess what? Postal Department is going digital.
Now you can track your letters or parcels through a mobile app.
Chandigarh Postal Division has launched the Postman Mobile Application at the General Post Office, Sector-17, Chandigarh.
The android-based app will directly upload the details of a delivery on a server which will send information to customers. The department has given smart phones to all postmen asking them to get the signatures digitally.
Ms. Radhika Dhir, Sr. Supdt. of Post Offices revealed, “All 249 postmen have been provided with the smart phones, along with the Subscriber Identification Module (SIMs) to use the application for which the training has already been imparted to the staff. The application is eco-friendly as all records will be digitally maintained, thereby saving paper.”
The department will keep them updated with the status of the delivery.
The project was for the city, but soon it would be launched in all cities under the Chandigarh postal division like Mohali, Ropar and Zirakpur.
With the new service, the people will no longer have to worry about when their parcel, letters or money order will be delivered.
