“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.”
-Barbara de Angelis
Meet Jagdish Ahuja, who was was born in Peshawar and came to Patiala with his family during the partition, when he was only 12 years old. In 1956, he, along with his family, shifted to Chandigarh. He started selling bananas and soon came to be known as the ‘Banana King’.
Every evening outside Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and every afternoon at the Government Medical College campus Sector 32, Chandigarh, 80 years old Jagdish Lal Ahuja has been distributing free food since 17 years, which is now known as “Baba’s Langar”.
His white SUV van is now commonly known in the area. Besides free meals, Jagdish Lal also distributes free blankets, sweaters, shoes and socks to the poor.
He sold seven of his properties worth several crores to fund the langar. A situation of ending the langar arose last year, but then he sold his property to fund the langar.
The reason why this man started to change the lives of others was when his own life was changed. Previously Mr. Ahuja was admitted to PGIMER and he is thankful to them for saving his life, and thus he started this noble deed.
Mr. Ahuja is surely a blessing for the poor people who come from far away for treatment in these hospitals.
Hopefully, more people like him will come out and make this world a better place to live in.
