Under the auspices of Chandigarh Smart City Mission, the UT administration has decided to set up water ATMs at 10 prime locations in the UT Chandigarh in the first phase. Aim is to provide clean, hygienic potable water to residents and tourists at cheap prices in the city.
The project would be carried out by Chandigarh Smart City Limited under public-private partnership mode.
- The sites identified are
4 in Market Area of Sector-35
3 in Sector-43 bus stand
2 in Sector-43 district court
1 in Sector-43 market
Later, they will be installed other prime locations in the city like Rose Garden, Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Sector 17 plaza, PGI, market area of Sectors-15, 17, 19, 22, according to the plan.
- 250ml of water will cost Rs 1 and 1 litre in disposable glasses will be priced Rs 5.
- Water quality will be displayed on the screen and if water is of low quality, ATM will not dispense water.
