A week ago, PUCSC president Kanupriya had written to the DSW, Panjab University. Highlighting the infrastructural glitches at Student Centre, she mentioned that Stu-C was in dire need of renovation.
Some umbrella sheds missing from the benches, a few other benches broken, four-seat conjoined stools with no seats to sit on, and metal sheets coming off from the tables. Not only this, toilets are also raising a stink. The boys’ toilet is somewhat bearable, but the girls’ washroom is clogged and its flush is not working either. In the lawn, on the rear side of Stu-C, green-coloured iron benches are left vacant because the pits store puddles of mud right at the bottom of the benches. It makes it difficult to rest one’s feet on the ground. In the letter, Kanupriya had suggested the authorities to cement the flooring at the benches and add gazebos in the lawn.
Apart from the infrastructural glitches, Student Centre’s monkey menace is quite unnerving. Not only have they dished out edibles from dustbins, spilling waste on the ground, but most of them are notorious for snatching away visitors’ food too.
For now, PU’s young guns are enduring the monkey menace and shoddy infrastructure to keep the varsity’s hotspot bustling. DSW Emanual Nahar said that he would look into the matter and would fix the problem soon. “We are already taking it up with the authorities and will soon fix everything here,” he said.
