A major fire broke out in the furniture market in Sec 53. Saving grace- there were no casualties reported. The Chandigarh and SAS Nagar, Mohali fire personnel rushed to the spot.
Suspected Reason
An LPG cylinder blast was suspected to be the reason. A labourer was cooking in the premises of shop number 1.
It is important to mention here: Sec 53, Chandigarh Furniture Market consists of single row of shops operating from tin sheds. These are on opposite sides of the main road. There have been instances of loss by fire on earlier occasions in this same market.
