‘Poshan On Wheels’- Chandigarh’s Initiative to Fight Malnutrition

To tackle the problem of malnutrition in Chandigarh, Administrator VP Singh Badnore launched the ‘Poshan on Wheels’ campaign by serving free nutritious meals.

The ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ foresees allocating funds for the development and implementation of innovations particularly showing the convergent nutrition action. The goal is to achieve at least one desirable nourishment result.

What’s Amazing: Mobile Anganwadi Vans

The initiative saw flagging off of two mobile anganwadi vans in Chandigarh. These vans will travel across the city to provide nutritious meals to the children. They will cover those areas which are usually left unattended such as the construction sites.

As per reports in The Indian Express, currently, the ‘Poshan on Wheels’ will cover the following:

  • Construction sites of Colony No. 4 (EWS Houses)
  • Sanjay Colony Industrial Areas
  • Construction site of PGI
  • Police flats in Dhanas
  • Construction area near Secretariat, Sector 9, Chandigarh

Via this initiative, the officials are looking at a total of 415 beneficiaries. These are including children in the age group of six months to six years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.

This campaign will provide the benefits of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme to the marginalized population. ICDS provides food along with other services to children less than six years of age and their mothers.

Administrator VP Singh Badnore also checked the food on the first day, when the vans were flagged off in Chandigarh. Earlier, there was one mobile van. It served the food to the children of the construction area near the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
