Dussehra the festival symbolising the victory of good over evil always brings out the kid in us.
Watching huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath burning with claps and hooting of crackers bursting, this spectacle always kick-start the Diwali celebrations in our hearts. Finger-licking delicacies, dry fruits… what an unapologetic gastronomical pleasure it is and the vibrant decorations and crackers just steal the show.
Though children across the tricity make their small Ravana effigies in parks, playgrounds, but Dussehra mela at following places in Tricity are a spectacle to watch every year.
Dussehra (Ravan Dahan) in Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali
1. Sector 5 Panchkula:
The Mata Mansa Devi Development Trust’s Dussehra Committee organises the event for Sector 5 Panchkula. This year the effigy will have modern touch as the artist who created the effigy is a tech-savvy guy.
2. Sector 46 Chandigarh:
The biggest effigy is being made by the Sanatan Dharma Mandir Committee in Sector 46. This time it is an 83-foot effigy of Ravana and it is three feet higher than the last year.
3. Sector 27 Chandigarh
Here also effigy of Ravana will be huge at 65 feet, much higher than the previous years.
4. Parade Ground Sector 17 Chandigarh
It has always been a favourite of every Chandigarhian. The kind of incredible fireworks they use is a spectacle to watch.
5. Dussehra Ground, Phase 8 Mohali
This time along with Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath, an effigy of self-styled ‘godman’ will be burnt. The motive behind it is to encourage people to give up superstition and not to follow such unscrupulous men and believe in almighty only.
6. Near Housing Board, Manimajra:
Not just the Ramlila at Manimajra is an attraction, but the Ravana dahan at Dusshera ground in Manimajra sees a large mela with a huge footfall.
7. Kalagram, Manimajra:
On the concluding of Dandiya Utsav, there will be a gala celebrations at Kalagram where the daily winners of dandiya festival will perform dandiya to win bumper prize. Additionally, there will be Dussehra celebrations too.
BONUS: Eco-friendly Digital Dussehra at Elante Mall
The mall is having two day long eco-friendly celebrations (29 and 30 Sept.) Digital Dussehra where stimulating messages messages on facebook with hashtag #GoodOverEvil will set ablaze the Ravana when the messages reach the “Symbol of Evil”. In addition to this, there will be hourly prizes for participants with best messages.
