Panjab University students have another reason to rejoice. From the coming academic session, 2018-19, PU will award digital degrees to postgraduate and PhD students.
Also, detail marks certificate (DMC) will also be available online.
Parvinder Singh, controller of examinations (CoE), PU said, ”In 2018-19, Panjab University will not give physical degrees unless required by the candidate. All degrees, whether DMC, PG or PhD, will be 100% online. Immediately after the successful run of the National Academic Depository (NAD), it will be made open to all colleges.”
National Academic Depository (NAD) online degree was inaugurated by Chancellor M Venakaih Naidu at PU on March 4 this year.
Singh also said that the university has started exporting data to NAD and has hired the National Security Depository (NSD), one of the authorized depositories of the Government of India, for the task. Technical experts are being trained for the purpose.
Process to obtain transcripts online also underway
In addition to this, PU will soon make the process of getting the process of obtaining transcripts online. The varsity will launch online verification of testimonials, which will help students get transcripts from anywhere in the world. The entire process will go online in two weeks. According to Singh, 99% of students going abroad for higher studies choose Canada. “It has been seen that when students are abroad or can’t come to collect their transcripts, their elderly parents do so. We don’t want them to face any kind of inconvenience,” said Singh.
