A total of 6,276 challans were issued to the motorists after clamping the wheels of wrongly parked vehicles across the city. Last year, only 550 challans were issued after using wheel clamps. Challans issued after towing away wrongly parked vehicles also witnessed a steep rise with 2,916 offenders being penalised as compared to 726 during the corresponding period last year. The police said in addition to wheel clamping and towing away vehicles, as many as 3,168 challans were issued on the spot.
