History of Mohali
Mohali born in 1975
- On November 1, 1975, Punjab Chief Minister Giani Zail Singh laid the foundation stone of Mohali and named it Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
- Ironically, there’s no record of Mohali’s foundation stone which has gone missing with the government.
- Local resident Baljit Singh Papneja had painted and written the historic stone.
- Interestingly, Papneja has a photograph of the foundation stone-laying ceremony, which he has kept safe in his record.
- Papneja also remembers the spot where the stone was laid. He identifies the location where at present industrial sheds are located behind the police station and adjoining Mohali’s first Kamla Market.
