Shri VP Singh Badnore, Administrator, UT, Chandigarh while addressing the independence day function here today, said that the COVID pandemic has created a health crisis and has had a deep impact on our lives. He further added that everyone is prepared for challenges.

“A lesson is well learnt, and we are all geared up to make Chandigarh a medical hub with exceptional facilities to tackle any such threat”, said the Administrator.
WHO recognised success
The World Health Organization has recognised the success of Chandigarh administration, particularly in containing the spread of COVID in Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, the administrator said.
Urged citizens to remain alert and cautious
The Administrator urged the citizens to wear masks, follow proper social distancing norms, avoid crowded places, and highlighted the importance of a citizen’s duty in fighting this pandemic.
Commended COVID warriors
The Administrator commended the Covid warriors.He applauded the Mayor, Councillors, MC Commissioner and staff members, who contributed greatly to the war against pandemic by providing essential commodities to the residents at their door-steps when curfew was imposed in the city.
Nasha Mukt Bharat
A state-level de-addiction campaign titled ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ was launched which focuses on freeing the city and nation from the scourge of drug abuse.
Aid to ex-servicemen
Financial assistance for ex-servicemen who retired or were released without pension and are above the age of 65,has been increased from ₹2,500 to ₹5,000 per month.
Besides this, the amount has been increased from ₹500 to ₹1,000 per month for widows of Sub Major Rank or same rank in the Navy and Air Force.
Maternity leave
In order to lessen the hardships of the commissioning mothers and surrogate mothers, maternity leave will be granted to all outsourced/contractual employees of UT Administration.
High school in Manimajra
The construction of Government High School in Manimajra is at completion stage.
Construction of an additional 216 houses for Chandigarh Police personnel will begin soon.
Mini sports complex
A New Mini Sports Complex in Sector-8 is completed and another Mini Sports Complex in Sector-27 is near completion.
Soon, construction of a new International Shooting Range in Sector-25, Mini Sports Infrastructure for Billiards and Snooker in Sports Complex at Sector 42 will begin.
Help for migrant labours
More than 45000 migrant labourers were sent home during this pandemic via the Shramik trains and buses.
Assistance was provided in every possible way, said the Administrator.
Besides these, the Chandigarh Housing Board is planning to rent out around 2,500 vacant flats in Maloya to the migrant labourers and urban poor under the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes scheme of the Central Government.
Applauded teachers
He applauded the efforts of teachers who adopted online teaching as a mode of imparting knowledge to students during this pandemic.
Complimented police force
Badnore also complimented the Chandigarh Police for ensuring effective implementation of lockdown and other measures such as social distancing, mask wearing, adherence to curfew timings, etc.
Paid homage to martyrs
The Administrator paid homage to the martyrs at the War Memorial, Chandigarh.
