Horrific Bus Accident in Shimla District Kills 45 Persons

In a heart-wrenching bus accident near Nerwa in Chopal of Shimla district, as many as 45 people were killed.

How it happened?

The ill-fated private bus started from Vikasnagar in Dehradun in the morning for Tyuni. As the bus reached Guma Antroli on the Rohnaat-Chopal road, the driver, while negotiating a curve, lost control and the bus fell into a gorge and subsequently rolled into the Tons. 

As quoted in The Tribune, the bus had developed some fault near Minus. The driver and the conductor got it repaired partly and started the further journey. Despite the advice of passengers to stop the bus, the driver continued to run the bus. 

Two survived the accident

The bus conductor and a young boy, who jumped off the rolling bus, survived the accident. The boy was rushed to the hospital after some first-aid and the conductor tried fleeing the spot. But, he was nabbed by the locals who handed him over to the administration. During the questioning he revealed the exact number of passengers. 

Relief Operations

Locals instantly reached the spot and started rescuing people. Later, rescue teams from Uttarakhand and a team of the NDRF also reached the spot.

The DC has announced a relief of Rs 50,000 to the next of kin of the deceased.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister has announced Rs 1 lakh ex gratia for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for those with injuries.

PM Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured.

Also HP Transport Minister has ordered a probe to ascertain the cause of the accident.
