The violence that erupted following Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim conviction by the special CBI court on August 25, 2017, at Panchkula costed Haryana whooping Rs 126 crore of losses.
To be precise, Haryana incurred the loss of Rs 1,26,68,71,700 in all the districts with Ambala suffering the most with Rs 46.84 crore among violence-hit districts.
Panchkula witnessed the maximum violence with 36 people dying in police firing and losses were to the tune of Rs 10.57 crore.
The loss includes damage to public and private property, revenue loss to various departments and expenses incurred on security.
Some of the districts, including Hisar, Jhajjar, Rewari, Narnaul (Mohindergarh), Palwal, Jind, Nuh and Yamunanagar, did not suffer any losses.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court is hearing a matter related to Dera violence in Haryana and the Haryana advocate general submitted the details to the court. The petition has been filed by advocate Ravinder Singh Dhull. On the basis of this petition, the court had issued several directions regarding maintenance of law and order in Punjab and Haryana ahead of Gurmeet’s rape conviction.
