Haryana | Govt School Students of Classes 10-12 to Get Free Tabs

To bridge the digital gap among the students in Haryana, the state government has decided to distribute free tablets to government school students of classes 10-12 in May.

Features to be included in these devices:

  • Pre-loaded content including digital materials, e-books, test videos and study materials related to class-wise syllabus
  • Personalised and adaptive-learning software
  • Free internet data
  • Tablets inserted with SIM cards with daily limit of 2 GB.

The state Education Minister Kanwar Lal tabled the proposals at a meeting of the high-powered purchase committee chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. In the meeting, procurement of personalised and adaptive-learning software costing more than Rs 5 crore for the higher classes was approved. Additionally, the procurement of around 5 lakh data SIM cards, costing Rs 47 crore, was also given a nod.

The digital divide became all the blatant during lockdown when students from economically weaker and deprived sections in government schools found themselves lagging behind in the absence of smartphones and internet connectivity.
