In an effort to modernize the Chandigarh Police for better control of traffic, the UT administration has planned to introduce the e-challan system from January 1, 2018. The decision was made final during the meeting of State Road Safety Council will be procuring 100 machines for the first phase.
The electronic format of e-challan will be a boon for the traffic police as they will be exempted from issuing the challan in the traditional manner by using pen and paper challans. Using the new system, the traffic police will issue the printed challan on the spot.The device will also help the police to keep a database of vehicle numbers and motorists.
Benefits of e-challan
- It will hand out the printed challan on the spot.
- Moreover, it will also keep a track of habitual offenders as the database of a habitual offender will be flashed on the electronic device once the information is fed into the machine.
