Chandigarh | No Weekend Lockdown, Large Gatherings Banned


In the review meeting chaired by Chandigarh Administrator V P Singh Badnore on Wednesday, Chandigarh administration has decided not to implement weekend curfew (as imposed in some other states) for time being however it’s not off the table. 

The Administrator has ordered complete ban on physical press conferences and appealed to political parties to restrain from holding large gatherings and functions which increases the risk of infection. The SSP Chandigarh has been directed to lodge FIRs if any violation of MHA guidelines and illegal gathering of any kind in the city. Only weddings and cremations are exceptional cases mentioned in the MHA guidelines. 

He also ordered immediate testing of 58 persons detected through AarogyaSetu App and also home confinement and self-monitoring by 131 persons. Taking note of vulnerability to infection spread in PGIMER, he agreed to medical staff suggestion of conducting random testing of the OPD and Emergency Patients visiting PGIMER, Chandigarh. 

Municipal Corporation has been asked to take all precautionary measures against outbreak of any monsoon related diseases and also ensure complete sanitization of the congested areas and markets.

To contain the increasing number of COVID-19 positive patients, he stressed on more vigorous screening, testing and stricter implementation of orders regarding social distancing and wearing of masks.
