Chandigarh Airport Seeks Probe On Viral Pictures of “Flooded Chandigarh Airport”

Last week, when Chandigarh recorded the highest downpour in last 10 years, the social media was hot with photos of a flooded airport with airplanes seemingly floating. The photos were circulated saying that it was Chandigarh Airport. But, as ChandigarhX reported the photos were fake and old pictures were being shared. Our research had revealed that it was Chennai Airport’s that too of 2015 when the city received heavy rain for two days straight.

The whole story of fake photos has not gone well down the Chandigarh airport’s authorities. Three days ago, they filed a complaint at the Mohali police station asking to investigate the source. The airport had also sought action against the vernacular daily for publishing the picture saying its Chandigarh airport, hence defaming the airport.

The police officers called the newspaper authorities and asked for their explanation.

“We will also seek the help of cyber cell to find the source of the pictures on social media for taking necessary legal action“, Inspector HS Bal said.

The Mohali cyber cell inspector Charanjeev Lamba said that it was hard to find the source of the pictures as they were circulated on WhatsApp and Twitter, but still they would try their best.

IndiaTimes had also published the same flooded airport photos saying it was Ahmedabad Airport it caused it much embarrassment.

Union Minister Smriti Irani also aired her opinion on the matter on Twitter and alerted the news establishments and Twitter users about the source.

A senior Chandigarh Airport official also said that people should check the authenticity of the pictures before sharing them as it can harm the institutes involved.

ChandigarhX requests its readers to check the authenticity of pictures before sharing them blindly.
