Amid the rising COVID cases in the city, the Centre will hold a meeting with the Chandigarh administration on today to review the Covid situation.
To check city’s preparedness
The Union Home Secretary would meet the UT authorities to check the city’s preparedness for the pandemic, a highly placed source told the Tribune.
Expressed displeasure last time
The Union Ministry had expressed displeasure earlier over the less number of containment zones in the jurisdiction and had asked the UT to enhance perimeter control where infection was prevalent.
As a result, the UT Administration created 25 more micro-containment zones where regular screening and monitoring of areas by the medical team would continue.
Second highest growth rate of COVID-19 cases in India
Since 1st September, the UT has been witnessing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.
It has the second highest growth rate of cases in the country.
In the first two weeks of September, the UT has recorded over 3,000 cases, taking the total tally close to 8,000. A total of 90 people have died due to COVID.
Central team deputed
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had recently sent a Central team to review and assist the authorities in strengthening public health measures for containment, surveillance, testing and clinical management of Covid-19.
The team also visited several Covid-19 dedicated hospitals & care centres to take view of the situation.
