47th Chandigarh Rose Festival: Flowers, Competitions And A Helicopter Ride

What’s Amazing?

All the beautiful flowers are in bloom now. The season is just right. Chandigarh Rose Festival, in its 47th year, is ready to showcase 1,400 rose beds comprising 42,000 rose plants of 829 varieties. All spread across an area of 40 acres. The 3-day festival is no less than a treat to the eyes.

You’ll see roses here, are named after renowned national and international personalities. Look for Queen Elizabeth of Britain, M.S. Randhawa, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and a few creative ones like Dorothy Peach, Canadian Centenary, Dullahan, etc. The sprawling garden is decorated with light works, hangings, flowers, sparkles, and festivities.

Things To Look Forward

The inauguration ceremony starts at sharp 10 o’ clock. A cultural performance marks the welcome of the chief guest. Later, the commissioner and other dignitaries address the audience.

The ‘Festival of Gardens’ hosts myriad activities for all to participate and win prizes. Come prepared for traditional folk dance competition, Mrs & Mr Rose competition, rose King & Queen, rose Prince & Princess competition, craft exhibition, brass and pipe competition, photography competition, on the spot painting, among others.

Visitors can enjoy a 7-10 minutes helicopter ride at 700 feet above. It is set to take off from the Parade Ground, Sector 17. The ride can be booked with Heritage Aviation Pvt. Ltd. It costs Rs 2,380/- per person. Each helicopter rider will be given an insurance worth 50 lakh. Book your ride at Hotel Mount View, Sector 10; Hotel Shivalik View, Sector 17 and Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh.

A cultural evening by Punjabi singer Kulwinder Billa to croon the audience is set for February 23, Friday. Gippy Grewal will sing on February 24, Saturday and Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari will woo the audience on February 25, Sunday.
