Come 29 Oct, Chandigarh Airport To Have Direct Flights To Bangkok

Another great holiday destination soon will be added to Chandigarhians list.

Air India revealed in Punjab and Haryana High Court that from October 29, Air India is all set to start operating four flights in a week to Bangkok from Chandigarh. A new aircraft ‘A-320 Neo’ will fly to Bangkok.

Punjab & Haryana High Court is hearing a civil writ petition on the condition of Chandigarh International Airport. in its response, central government counsel said,”It will take four months to procure the plant and machinery for resurfacing of the runway because of which no time-frame has been set for the completion of the carpeting work… It is a very high technical job and one of the kind being done for the first time.”

It is interesting to note that the flight to Bangkok was first announced on September 15, 2016 when first Air India Express flight to Sharjah was launched and it was planned to start in April this year, then postponed to May due to “delay in procuring new aircraft.”

“The flights continue to incur losses even with the current routing of Amritsar-Delhi-Brimingham, and as per the financial figures, the flight has incurred a loss of Rs 9.93 crore in the month of January this year and a cumulative loss of Rs 133 crore for the period April 16 to January 17,” said the Air India in its response.
